"He holds the record for world's greatest fish fry...He fed 5000 hungry souls with two fish and five loaves of bread." - Steve Harvey's introduction of Jesus Christ

I listen to the Steve Harvey morning show at work and I crack up because he's borderline "Old school preacher" / "dude at the juke joint with the E&J in his hand". Just cracks me up. Anyhoo, here he giving his rendition of how he would introduce Jesus Christ.

Stay inspired peoples!!

We Can't Lose...LP

I was watching BET this morning and I thought I heard Shalamar's "This Ring/For the Lover in You" playing on the gospel show. Before I thought Brother Gerard lost his mind on Lift Every Voice, I peeked my head through the door and saw it was actually was a gospel song called "We Can't Lose" by LP. This song is a sweet and inspirational story about the quintessential boy/girl love story and it doesn't hurt that my favorite song by Shalamar is being used for the melody. Check it out I hope it inspires you with your relationships as well. And if you like the song, get the album here.

Last week I brought you the classic Clark Sisters with "endow me." Well, this morning I was watching the video of one one of the sisters, Karen's offspring - her daughter, Kierra aka KiKi. KiKi just cracked me up. It's a great fast tempo song and gets you going in the morning, but at the end, its so funny...you just have to watch to see.

See, I told you it would crack you up!

Today's inspirational insight comes from an old classic from the Clark Sisters. That song always gives me goosebumps. Well, Faith, Fantasia, Lil Mo and Coko (from SWV fame) are giving their interpretation and its not only inspirational, but sounds so, so amazing.

The original by Twinkie Clark and her sisters:

An alarming study came out not too long ago which concluded that pre-menopausal African American women were more likely to be diagnosed and die from breast cancer than women in any other category. The main reason was because of estrogen compounds in many of the cosmetic products used by black women. They accelerate the growth of breast cancer cells. Wow! The named hormone compounds were bisphenol A, parabens, and plasticizers. I don’t know what they are but they apparently lurk in products like deodorants, cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals.

In addition, over the course of the last 25 years, newer generations of black women have a 21% higher chance than whites in getting breast cancer.

We are exposed to elevated levels of estrogen when our breasts are being developed, resulting in increased vulnerability to cancer cell attacks.

Look at the map depicting the mortality rate among African American women aged 20-49. Note how the highest percentages are in the south were higher percentages of black still reside.

Map of United States Breast Cancer Mortality Rates
by State Economic Area 1970-1994
Black Females (Age 20 - 49) Mortality Rate/100,000 - 17.39

Apparently trying to stay so fresh so clean can do some serious damage! I hope they outline what actual products black women use so that we can be aware in our shopping choices. I emailed the article to all my friends to let them know of the study and keep tabs on the findings. I would advise you all to find out more as well. This is no joke. Let that marinate.....

This is an excerpt from TD Jakes addressing leadership of your own life. If you're your like me, this will help you deal with P R O C R A S T A N A T I O N !!!! I have a horrible habit of it. I endup doing things that should have been done YESTERDAY But if I dont get up, get out, and get something, I'll have no choice but to be a follower all my life.

Good leadership is critical. It is important, whether you are a business owner, whether you are in ministry, whether you are in marriage, or whether you are one person alone going to college, going to school. Leadership: being able to take discipline over yourself and say, "This is what I am going to do; this is my plan; this is my strategy. I must get up out of the bed at this time. This is my study routine. Getting leadership. Getting control over yourself. People who lead well do well. And I’ll say it again: People who lead well do well. People who do not develop leadership skills stand around and wait to be led, and depending upon who passes by, that determines what happens in your life. Whether you are married or not, you need to be in control of your own spirit. The Bible says, "He that cannot rule his own spirit is like a city without walls." If you can’t do anything but lead you, you have done a whole lot to get a grip on you. Where are you going? How are you going to get there? And when do you expect to arrive at your destination?

Washed Away

Sometimes your past keeps you from reaching your potential in the future. Stop clinging on and wash off! You remember when you were little and you mother gave you one look and told you to wash your face. She wouldnt leave until the remnants of what you went through during the day that stubbornly stuck to you were washed off. So wash off the crusty past and move onto higher ground. Let that marinate.

This is a great article from TD Jakes called:
The Great Investment
Family, faith, and finance are the three ingredients of a successful life.

Here's an excerpt:

The Power of a Plan -- Many people fail to attain their financial goals because they have no plan. A plan takes all your dreams and talents and maximizes them by bringing structure to the concept. It must include setting a budget, living within your means, and planting some of your seed into savings and investments for a future harvest. But no plan, however well-thought-out, will work unless you work it. It must be put into action. It should be written out and must include specific actions and deadlines to fulfill those actions.

Excerpt from Nothing Just Happens by TD Jakes

".....That once you go through them you need to make sense of the madness in your life since you can't change what happened and you can't alter what you've been through, at least you need to be able to think that there's some greater good that's going to come out of it......It's not a mistake, it's not an accident, God didn't fall asleep on the job and the devil came in and wrecked the car. No, God never sleeps and he never slumbers. He's in complete control and he knows where you are, and he knows how old you are, and he knows how much time you spent, and he knows what happened to you, and he knows who walked out and left you, and he knows who betrayed you, and he knows who molested you, and he knows who raped you, and he knows who rejected you, and he knows where you are in life, and he knows about your bills, and he knows about your degree, and he knows you dropped out of school, and he knows about what you didn't get, and he knows about the health of your child, and he knows about the condition of your neighborhood. Understand that and tell yourself nothing just happens."
