An alarming study came out not too long ago which concluded that pre-menopausal African American women were more likely to be diagnosed and die from breast cancer than women in any other category. The main reason was because of estrogen compounds in many of the cosmetic products used by black women. They accelerate the growth of breast cancer cells. Wow! The named hormone compounds were bisphenol A, parabens, and plasticizers. I don’t know what they are but they apparently lurk in products like deodorants, cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals.

In addition, over the course of the last 25 years, newer generations of black women have a 21% higher chance than whites in getting breast cancer.

We are exposed to elevated levels of estrogen when our breasts are being developed, resulting in increased vulnerability to cancer cell attacks.

Look at the map depicting the mortality rate among African American women aged 20-49. Note how the highest percentages are in the south were higher percentages of black still reside.

Map of United States Breast Cancer Mortality Rates
by State Economic Area 1970-1994
Black Females (Age 20 - 49) Mortality Rate/100,000 - 17.39

Apparently trying to stay so fresh so clean can do some serious damage! I hope they outline what actual products black women use so that we can be aware in our shopping choices. I emailed the article to all my friends to let them know of the study and keep tabs on the findings. I would advise you all to find out more as well. This is no joke. Let that marinate.....
