and looking prophetically salty at the SI logo

Beyonce and the rest of the party people that attended Sports Illustrated's swimsuit issue party just might have contracted Hepatitis A. According to SI, an employee of the caterer, Wolfgang Puck Catering, was diagnosed with the virus.
The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health urged anyone who ate raw food at the Sports Illustrated event, held at the Pacific Design Center in West Hollywood, to receive an immune globulin shot by Wednesday.

According to the CDC there is no specific treatment for Hepatitis A but sufferers are advised to rest, avoid fatty foods and alcohol but thankfully they reported a low mortality rate of 4 deaths per 1000 cases for the general population. Approximately 15% of people diagnosed with Hepatitis A may experience a symptomatic relapse(s) for nine months to a year after contracting the disease.

I can hear Beyonce now...

Beyonce:"Somebody done lost they mofo mind serving me this contaminated ish. Now I cant eat my fried okra and sip Dom Perignon at the 40/40. I know what I'm 'bout to do - Jay, you ready?"
Jay Z and Beanie(who will do the dirty work): "I'm ready B, Let's go get 'em"

A Change is Gonna Come...

It's been a long, a long time coming
But I know a change gonna come, oh yes it will

Marchers attacked by AL police in Selma AL, 1965
Photos via National Park Service

This weekend is the 42nd anniversary of "Bloody Sunday." For those who are not aware which Bloody Sunday this is, becuase in African American history, bloody days of the went down on the regular, this was the day down in Selma AL where civil rights workers were headed out to march 50 miles to the east but were beaten with billy clubs on the Edmund Pettus Bridge 6 blocks into their journey to Montgomery.

Two days later, MLK came over and gave a pep talk and handled "bidness" and the march resumed and the march ended successfully in Montgomery and four months later, President Johnson outlawed literacy tests to vote and signed the Voting Rights Act of 1965, (the same act that was under serious attack of not being renewed this past year but fourtunately passed). If you ever have been on US Highway 80 between the two cities, you have to give congratulatory pats on the back for that feat because that stretch of highway is a pretty long hop skip and jump nestled between lonely cotton fields surely owned by Bull Conner sympathisers. When I was down at Tuskegee, I was spooked and scared to even drive that stretch at night, probably because I had "Bloody Sunday" on my mind.

Well, anyway, Obama will be there on behalf of one of those bloodied marchers, Rep. John Lewis of GA.

Here's some insight on what he might say to the black audience he'll face this weekend:

Do you try to talk in the same way to a black audience as a white audience?
I think that the themes are consistent. It think that there's a certain black idiom that it's hard not to slip into when you're talking to a black audience because of the audience response. It's the classic call and response. Anybody who's spent time in a black church knows what I mean. And so you get a little looser; it becomes a little more like jazz and a little less like a set score.

Do you feel that you have to prove yourself to black leaders or civil rights leaders?
You know, I really don't. I think it's instructive to look at how I ran my U.S. Senate campaign... I think that the African American community is more sophisticated than I think the pundits sometimes give them credit for. The notion that right now I'm not dominating the black vote in the polls makes perfect sense because I've only been on the national scene for a certain number of years. And people don't yet know what my track record is.

Senator Barack Obama Rally - Austin, Texas - February 23, 2007

Isn't it amazing that in one generation, we went from being beat for simply fighting for a voice and now we have someone of african american descent vying to be spokesperson for everyone's voice. A change is definitely coming Sam Cooke.

Growing Pains - DTP f/ Ludacris

Ludacris at the NBA AllStar game, Feb. 18, 2007

I know I'm late on this but Ludacris' father, Wayne Brian Bridges, age 52, passed away this past Sunday down in Atlanta.

"We are overwhelmed by the generous outpouring of love, condolences and support from family members, friends, fans and the many well-wishers," read a statement released Monday (February 27) by Ludacris' family. "We thank you for your prayers and hope you will understand our need for privacy during this sorrowful time."

This came on the heels of his first ever Grammy win for "Release Therapy" and of course his special shout out to Bill O'Reilly that in my eye, beats even ODB's infamous award show quip "WuTang is for the children!" It just goes to show you that you must have rain to enjoy the sunshine. I send out heart felt condolences to him and his family and and since he's a fellow ATLien, I just might keep it hood pour out a lil' liquor on Peachtree next time I'm there.

"Every little step I take,
The cops will be there,
Every little move I make,
Handcuffs and I will be together,
Through any kind of weather,
It's like that, it's like that, ya'll."

Bobby "done done it" again. Apparently every little step he makes around Boston rest assure, he'll be copping a charge. He got locked up at Bobbi Christina Jr's cheerleading competition because he decided not to show up for his child support court case.

"The 38-year-old singer was scheduled to appear Monday afternoon in Norfolk Probate and Family Court, said Adam Loomis of All State Constables in Weymouth.

"He was supposed to show up and prove everything was up-to-date," Loomis said. Brown was co-operative outside the high school, and borrowed Loomis' cellphone to arrange to get out of jail, the constable said."

That Bobbi Christina is mos def going to need to heavy serious counseling because her 14 years of growing up a B. Brown may start taking its toll and I know auntie Dionne has her back because I know she saw this train wreck coming.

I love love love Stevie Wonder. This man makes classic music for all time. Well, I was listening to an old joint from college, "One", with Busta Bust and Erykah Badu and realized it sample from Stevie Wonder's ballad, "Love's in Need of Love Today." Fiddy sampled it and Dave Hollister covered too. So who do you think covered the song best?

Recently Macy Gray came out of hiding and has been out ad about performing a various events. I thought it was Fantasia for a second, but closer examination revealed that no, it wasn't Fantasia or Eddie Munster, but Macy with a new wig. Could it be that Macy and Fanny might be country cousins and not even realize it? Hmmm...

Angela Bassett and Courtney B. Vance have a new book out about relationships. It's titled Friends: A Love Story.

The book tells the story of their emotional lives both before and after they met.
Here's a recount of Angela's coping with the complicated relationship with her mother.
"Angela, I am not your mother," she would tell me in a gentle voice.
"You have a mama. I am Auntie." I would get upset and twist up my face.
I wanted to have a mama. One day when I was four I was in the basement playing when Auntie called me upstairs. "Angela, your mama's on the phone." "Hello..." "Hi, Angela. This is Mama," said the voice on the other end of the line.
"I ain't got no mama," I shouted and threw down the phone.

Here are the couple at their book signing at Eso Wan Books in Los Angeles yesterday.

I love that this couple is making it work in Hollywood. They are both inspirational black people that others can look up too. Plus, I'm still trying to get Angela's arms from her Tina Turner days. You gotta give your girl Angela props for those guns!
