Okay, by now everybody has probably bobbed their head to the catchy song, "Throw some D's on that bleep." I really can't figure out what he's saying and I'm from the south so you'd think I could translate, but anyway, I really enjoy the hook to the song which samples "I Call Your Name" by those high pitched brothas of El Debarge and Switch. Of course other artists have sampled the Switch beat like Master P's homey Fiend did waaay back in the day, and others have made of course made their own spin of Rich Boy's joint as in the case of Kanyeezy. But who did the beat justice? Here are the candidates that I chose:

I love love love Stevie Wonder. This man makes classic music for all time. Well, I was listening to an old joint from college, "One", with Busta Bust and Erykah Badu and realized it sample from Stevie Wonder's ballad, "Love's in Need of Love Today." Fiddy sampled it and Dave Hollister covered too. So who do you think covered the song best?

I remember getting excited when my family gassed up the'77 Thunderbird to go to my grandmother's house down south. I was psyched because I knew my dad was going to pumping the O'Jays eight track in the speakers. My dad made me fall in love with the Motown sound. One of my fave tracks he played was "Cry Together." It was so melancholy and smooth that even though I was only a kid, I felt that man's pain like I had been in love. Well, anyhoo, here are some tracks that sampled the O'Jays song. Plenty of artists have sampled George Clinton and the Parliament Funkadelic. My favorite was "Let Me Ride." Classic P Funk. Anyway, I remember some other great songs from back in the day that sampled (Not Just) Knee Deep - Tone Loc, Dr.Dre, De La Soul, and Snoop Dizzle my Nizzle. Who do you think sampled it best?

Winter finally arrived today on the east coast. I had to wave bye bye to the summer temps we were enjoying for the past couple of months. But the warm temps made me think of that great summertime jam by DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince. They sampled the melody from Kool and the Gang and then I remembered Ice Cube sampled the same beat for his classic - "You know how we do it" back in '92. All great songs but who sampled it best?
