“our black citizens should just get over it.” - Frank Hargrove

Virginia lawmaker, Frank Hargrove was buggin out Tuesday and seemed to manage to offend blacks and Jews in one swoop. Another delegate proposed a resolution to call for the Virginia government to apologize for slavery. Apparently that didn't sit well with Hargrove. He said it was unfortunate but that blacks should just get over it. Unfazed by his Jewish counterpart sitting next to him, Hargrove equated carrying out the apology to Jews apologizing to Christians for killing Jesus. I think that his comments would even make even Strom Thurman turn and do cartwheels in his grave. The bad part about it is that his hasn't gone on a PR blitz to back down on his statement - he'ssticking to his story and that's all to it.
"Where has the Republican condemnation been?" asked King Salim Khalfani, executive director of the Virginia State Conference NAACP in a morning news conference. "The silence is deafening." [source]

But does he have a point? Should we be asking for an apology about what ended 140 years ago? What about reperations? People in my area area mixed about it - some say move on, others are behind the apology referendum. What do you think? Marinate on that.
