She got a black girl name...she living black girl pain - Talib Kweli
ABC reports top "whitest" and "blackest" names
I had a discussion with a friend awhile back when I first graduated from college. We were discussing how your name can block you from a callback for an interview. Her cousin had a baby and named it a "Caucasian" name so she wouldn't have a hard time later in life. My friend didnt think it mattered and just didn't get it, but she also had a Caucasian name too. I on the other hand knew exactly where she was coming from because my name had the "sha" in it and my first name was Hispanic. Anyhoo, 20/20 did a report about the name game and true enough, Kaitlin and Cody got the call backs whereas Diamond and DeAndre's phone fell silent. Now if I could only get my young mothers to stop the insanity with the multiple vowels and consonants in their babies names.
